GIBSON GUITARTOWN

The GuitarTown Project was a public arts project that featured 10-foot tall fiberglass guitars and regular size guitars artistically designed by visual artists and musical artists, sponsored by local businesses and individuals.

Each artist was given a stark white, 10-foot-tall fiberglass guitar. The sponsor for my guitar was ASCAP. After taking a roadtrip to Montgomery, AL to The Hank Williams Museum (www.thehankwilliamsmuseum.com) I chose to paint Hank Williams' 1952 Cadillac "reflecting" onto the front and an empty Ryman Auditorium "reflecting" onto the back.

The project was administered through the Gibson Foundation, a non-profit organization that is dedicated to improving the quality of life through its support of the arts, education, health and welfare, and environmental causes.

The sculptures were on display from July 2005 to January 2006, after which they were auctioned off with proceeds benefiting designated Nashville non-profit and charitable organizations including The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, United Way, Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum, and the Downtown District.
